Grrrr....

This has me quite upset.

If they are going to go and protest like that at an LDS temple, they better be over at the local Catholic church doing the same thing....the Catholics are a bigger percentage of people and they probably put more money into getting people to vote than we did. Not that it matters...and people are allowed to protest, but geez people...we are free to believe how we want to believe! We may hate the sin, but we still love the sinner.

OH WOW. I agree with Sarah. Why target our church when over 50% of the population of California voted FOR Prop 8 anyway?

It's so sad that they scream "no more hate" and look at what they're doing....

Wow!!! That is surprisingly like what it says we will get from the people in the Great and Spacious building... Makes you think a little...

Scary, I know. I've got a friend who has been watching this very closely. He sent me an email from a friend of his who had their bishop text him and a bunch of the Tongans and ask them to go protect the temple. I'm curious to see what will happen tomorrow when all these "evil" Mormons try to go to church.

Yeah, and I was reading the comments this morning and I was pretty appalled. Sad. What good is it doing? And, why the temple? I feel bad for those working and attending there. I could write an enitire book here... I don't care if it ever passes, it's not right and a piece of paper won't make it so! Double grrr!

Ugg, It makes me so mad and sad I can't type what I want to say! I agree with what everyone has said before. And I think it is just more proof that we are members of the true and EVERLASTING gospel, b/c no matter how hard Satan tries to turn the hearts of people against us, he will not prevail.

I’m not saying it’s right, but the LDS Church was/is a target of the anti-Prop 8 folks because of the amount of money the LDS Church funded to the campaign. I’ve actually been searching for percentages of dollars funded (because I’m just curious) and haven’t found anything as detailed as I was looking for. But it appears that the LDS Church was the largest contributor by quite a bit. Of the articles I’ve come across – it appears that 30% - 40% of funding came from LDS members alone. (And much more than the Catholic Church. While the Catholic Church is the richest church in the world by far – it’s somewhat “cash poor”. And most Catholics don’t tithe.)

It isn't about who funded the most. The temple is sacred, hallowed ground. For them to be banging on the gates is despicable. I don't deny that they are upset or that they have a right to protest - but there are better ways to do it than to defile and bring ugliness to the place we hold most dear - a place that is our peace.

It is hard watching people treat the Temple so poorly. I don't think I ever realized, until I lived in Utah, that there are always people protesting outside of the Temple in SLC, but there it is usually a more peaceful protest. I agree that people have a right to demonstrate but the yelling and banging on the gates is a little much.
And the way that the news is portraying things makes me furious. Many Mormons did give funding for Prop 8, but that doesn't mean the LDS church
gave funding. Individuals are separate from the church, and I know a few LDS members who were against Prop 8 (just as members of the church voted differently on other issues).
I thought this article was informative/interesting

and it also has a link to the church's official statement about what is going on

You’re right Kelli. There are definitely better ways to protest than to bang on the gates of any church.
And Julie – you’re right too. Even in the several articles I read it was hard to pick up on whether it was the Church itself giving funding or the members. I did see several donations given directly under the Church’s name (just like there were given directly under various Catholic, Baptist, etc. churches – perhaps those all were travel expenses), but it was hard to tell . . . Regardless, the LDS Church (and/or its members) had a very strong voice in this campaign.
Again – I’m not saying the demonstrations were right. . . .
I do find this whole Prop 8 thing interesting though. And I find it intriguing that it passed in CA of all states! I’m sure this isn’t the last we’ll see of this.

I just have to reiterate (sp?) what Missy said. 52% of the state voted for Prop 8. There is no WAY 52% is all Mormon. the fact is that they need a scapegoat. Obviously, 52% wanted it passed. But it's much easier to hide their faces and point at the Mormons

Another point was made by my friend Amber: 70% of black people voted for Prop 8 and Latino numbers were also very high in favor. Why is it okay to target a religion but not a race?

Let's stop pointing fingers and just leave it at the fact that the majority won. That's the way the law works.

I had hoped angry mobs was something people of our faith could leave in the past.
